Distribution of Hygiene Materials:
Loo Niva has distributed hygiene materials – masks, hand sanitizer and soap in 5 different wards of south Lalitpur. Loo Niva revised the programs by considering the current crisis of COVID-19 after taking approval from funding partners from Finland. The materials was distributed in the wards of Mahankal and Bagmati rural municipalities. The materials were provided in close coordination with ward office. Social mobilizers of Loo Niva carried out awareness program in local community along with material distribution program. It helped to aware on the present situation of COVID-19 and its effects and survival technics.
Altogether 1012 community people were benefited from this program.
Parents awareness through Radio program
Dadeldhura, the country-wide lockdown came into effect on 24 March 2020, and is scheduled to end on June 14, 2020. Increase in the number of RT-PCR positive cases and their profile reflects the high level of testing among recently arrived returnees from India. There are indications of some limited secondary community transmission, but it is not widespread. Loo Niva has given priority on enhancing communication and public awareness about COVID-19 pandemic. In the meantime, through radio program in coordination with Radio Amargadhi and Radio Unity - community radio of Dadeldhura, Loo Niva is active in the community awareness raising.
Radio broadcasts in local languages are among the effective ways in which the Loo Niva is providing whole community of the Dadeldhura District of Nepal.
The World Bank said that COVID 19 pandemic caused more than 1.6 billion children and youth are out of the school in 161 countries. Nepal is one of them that many children are not able to attend the school and forced to stay at home for those reasons many children are suffering from psychological problems, depression, and others. To spread awareness to the parents during this pandemic situation Loo Niva broadcast the awareness program in Dadeldhura District.
Learning Camp through Radio
COVID-19 affects all of us and in everywhere. Due to this pandemic situation, Nepal government decided to cancelled all the academic examinations and close the schools and colleges. The lack of routine is probably one of the biggest factors affects children. Routines give children structure and a framework they can rely on, which is very important. So, Loo Niva run the learning camp to both secondary and basic level students through community radio. The main objective of the radio program was to engage the student in learning activities, give continuity their learning and keep children in structure routine.
Loo Niva technically and financially supported to the communities radios to broad caste the radio classes in Dadeldhura district. The program has coordinated with Ajaymeru and Ganyapdhura rural municipalities of Dadeldhura District. The program mainly focused on the English, Mathematics, Science, English and Nepali Grammar. Students got opportunity to learn and solve their academic queries even in the lockdown period. Approximately, 5000 secondary level student and more than 34000 basic level students of Dadeldhura has been benefited from this program.
- Capacity building to school teachers on child psychology.
Discussion meeting provided the tools and technics on psychosocial counseling and understanding the situations of the children in this pandemic situation. Loo Niva organized the discussion program on child psychology with the teachers of Lalitpur on 21 May, 2020. 28 (10 female and 18 male) focal teachers from public schools took participated in the program. The discussion program was facilitated by Ms. Sunita Shrestha, psychosocial counselor, with more than a decade of experiences in psychosocial counseling.
The program was intended for the school teachers who need to directly work with children with psycho-social problems during this pandemic situation of COVID-19. The main objective of the program was to build the capacity on basic psychosocial support to the school teachers. Working as a teacher has to take into consideration a lot of things like, imparting quality education, creating better and improved methods of communication between teacher and students and understanding the child psychology and ensure the better mental well-being of the child in any situation. During this pandemic situation teacher is also one of the major responsible person who uplift the situation in creative way. So to understand and deal child psychology and share the role of teachers during this pandemic COVID -19 situation Loo Niva conducted this virtual online discussion the Focal teachers of Lalitpur.
